Hello, I'm Simon, and whether you are an actor or a drama student, or if you just have to use your voice a lot as part of your job, I can help you develop your vocal skills so that you can use your voice effectively whilst maintaining your vocal health.
QUALIFICATIONS, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
I qualified as a professional voice and accent coach in 2016 with an MA (with Commendation) in Professional Voice Practice from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire School of Acting, Birmingham City University. Previously I gained a PGCE in Drama in Education from Birmingham Polytechnic (now BCU) in 1988, and a BA (Hons.) in Drama and Theatre Arts from the University of Birmingham (1986). I also trained as a director at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School (1986-87) and have extensive experience as an actor, director, drama teacher and lecturer.
I have been employed as a Voice and Accent teacher at drama schools such as Rose Bruford College of Theatre and Performance and the Bridge Theatre Training Company in London. Before completing my MA, I had taught Drama and Performing Arts for 27 years. Having spent ten years as a Lecturer in Drama at Kidderminster College, I was Head of Drama at the King's School in Worcester from 1998 until 2015 and was a part-time lecturer in Drama and Acting at New College Swindon from 2017-18.
I have a current enhanced DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate.
I will teach any age from 8 upwards and I am able to prepare students for LAMDA Speech and Drama exams if desired. I also have many years experience of teaching GCSE and 'A' level Drama.
I am a full member of Equity as well as the British Voice Association.
As an actor, I am represented by Aquila Talent Agency, London.
I have now recommenced face-to-face coaching in a studio environment providing it is one-to-one and the space is suitably large enough to maintain a safe degree of social distancing. Face coverings are not really appropriate given the nature of what we're doing, but ant-bac sprays, wipes and hand sanitiser can be provided and toilet/washing facilities are available at all venues.
Sessions are available on Monday, Tuesday or Thursday evenings after 5pm, or (exceptionally) early weekday mornings (before 8am).
Hope to see you (in person again) soon...!

If you are interested in working with me, then get in touch by phone, email or by using the enquiry form below.
Let me know what kind of coaching you are interested in, and we can take it from there! There's no commitment, no pressure, and if I don't think I can help you I will be honest and won't waste your time or money! Likewise, if after first session, you don't think it's for you, that's fine.... You won't have to take things further....
VOICE COACHING with me will focus on your breathing and physical alignment.... Voice work involves a whole body approach and gentle exercises to encourage physical release and relaxation, so you will need wear loose, comfortable clothing.
Together we will work on your breathing, vocal resonance and articulation (vocal clarity and precision). We will look at ways to improve your vocal health and minimise the risk of vocal problems and pathological issues (e.g. cysts, nodules etc.)
Please let me know of your requests for help with accents. Please note I will need some time to research the accent if it is one I have not taught before, before I start working with you.
